Epic snowstorm may have cost Greater Washington economy at least $250M

Steve Bowen, associate director and meteorologist for reinsurance company Aon Benfield, a division of Aon plc (NYSE: AON), said preliminary estimates for the physical and economic damage across the Northeast could be several billion dollars. He said the storm came close to rivaling the epic blizzard that swept across the Northeast in 1996 and cost about $4.6 billion in damage and lost business.

“I think when we look back historically this is going to be one of the major winter storm events that future events will be compared to,” Bowen said.
